Abercrombie & Kent: Tailor Made Norway: Bergen, Flam & the Fjords
Day 1 Oslo, Norway
From Oslo, capital of Norway, you are met and privately transferred to the train station. Board a train bound for Myrdal and, once there, step aboard the Flam Railway for a steep ride up through picturesque scenery for stunning views over the fjords. Then, venture down the mountain by train to the little fjord town of Flam. From there, you are privately chauffeured to your hotel. Dine tonight at your hotel’s fine restaurant.
Join your local host for a half-day hiking tour to experience the magnificent Turlid waterfall. Alternatively, simply relax and take in the beautiful natural surroundings, perhaps exploring the area by bike.
Stroll to the pier for a fjord cruise from Flam to Gudvangen, where you explore the Viking Valley, an authentic experience of Viking life between sea voyages. Afterward, drive to Voss Gondol for lunch on your own before continuing on to Bergen.
Today, set out on a city tour of Bergen, considered the gateway to the fjords. Led by your private guide, visit historic Bryggen Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ascend Mount Floyen on a funicular ride to the top, where you take in stunning views of Bergen and its archipelago. Proceed to the Schotstuene, where the Hanseatic League, the once-powerful medieval trade guild founded in 1350, used to gather during winter. Next, explore Troldhaugen, the one-time home of composer Edvard Grieg, now a museum displaying artifacts of his life and wonderful compositions, which include In the Hall of the Mountain King and Morning Mood, which he wrote for Henrik Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt. Return to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of your afternoon at leisure, free to explore on your own.
After breakfast, privately transfer to the airport for your departing flight.
All fares are quoted in US Dollars.
